Full score and parts. This arrangement for string orchestra of Andante Cantabile is taken from Tchaikovsky’s String Quartet No. 1 in D, movement 2 (1871). An elegant and moving work, shortly after it was written it was performed at a concert to celebrate Russian author Leo Tolstoy. Tchaikovsky is said to have noted Tolstoy weeping at the end of the movement. In addition to the original string quartet version, Andante Cantabile is often performed as a stand alone string orchestra work or for solo cello and string orchestra. This arrangement is dedicated to the memory of John Paul Laverty (1982-2020).
